How would you go about doing it?
Assuming you need to earn it legally.
And, I’ll throw in that you should do so within ethical and moral bounds too.
So, how will you make $1000 quickly
Think about it for a minute. Now think about it for another minute.
- How will you do it?
- Where will you start?
- If you can do it successfully once would you try it again (and again)?
Effectively this forms the roots of entrepreneurialism and what people need to do when they work for themselves or for a company. By thinking about the revenue generation model this way you can become more valuable as an independent consultant or an employee at a company. As you begin to master the model of accomplishing revenue generating efforts (even if they are indirect) you will stand out in your career.
I bring this up based on a book I just finished called “Shortcut Your Startup” by Courtney Reum and Carter Reum. They asked this question and it go me thinking. If you can use this model to make $1000 quickly … why can’t you use the same model to seek a higher dollar amount or repeat it on a regular basis. If you did want to continue this effort:
- What process would you go through?
- Would you use the same model each week?
- How would you go about increasing the dollar amounts and staying true to yourself?
This ties into the Amazon Leadership Principle of having a “Bias for Action” — which is absolutely needed in order to earn that first $1000. And, even more necessary for the next $1000 and beyond.
$1000 is a good starting place
If you can make $1000 quickly and repeat that weekly you could be in pretty decent shape.
This is on average $52,000 a year. Which is two times higher than the US Poverty Line.
And, depending upon where you reside you could be doing pretty well.
That $1000, if parlayed out weekly, would be $25 per hour assuming a typical 40 hour week.
Could you survive on that?
The simple answer is yes.
The poverty line in the US is $25,190 a year for a family of four. (Source: US HHS)
Could you live well on this amount?
That’s up to you. Everyone gets to decide what on their own definition living well.
But, the point is if you can do something where you could make $1000 quickly (and of course legally) then why can’t you do that every week for a whole year.
So, where will you start?
For me, I’d start by reaching out to friends.
I’d ask them if they have any projects that just need an extra set of hands, eyes, or need extra cycles to accomplish something.
It sounds a little simplistic and maybe perhaps a bit comical. But, these are the roots of entrepreneurialism.
Valuing Your Time
Ultimately, this comes down to how you value your time. And, of course, how other people perceive you and value their dollar.
Some people won’t have to work 40 hours to make that thousand dollars.
If you can do more and/or charge more you have the option of increasing that dollar about to, say, $2000 or more.
And, as you get better at doing this (aka kick your entrepreneurial spirit into high gear) you may be able to parlay your skills into $5000, $10,000 or more.
The sky is the limit. But, the ability to make $1000 quickly is a starting point.
You have to make the ask
The old adage of “if you don’t ask you don’t get” is more true than ever when you’re trying to make that first thousand dollars quickly. The good news is that with practice it gets easier. As you find the way to get to that initial thousand dollars quickly you’ll find that a similar methodology works to get to the next thousand and the next and the next. The repeatability, volume, and velocity will each increase as you get better at this.
Some will love it and excel. Others may not, but if they can use the model the Reum brothers recommended to think about and perhaps actually accomplish earning that initial $1000 dollars they’ll learn a lot about themselves.
A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
